Internet Addicts
It has the news, it has all sorts of entertainment; excitement is in the air, travel, sex, gossips; finding the best, removing the worst, I don’t know, it’s more than we could count… But what is this?
Of course, it’s the internet media.
Do people become addicted to such a thing? They do.
Do they become addicted to its contents? They do… Is it considered a disorder after that point? It is.
Don’t say “How?”. The time they allocate on it increases, they cannot bear its absence, they cannot make it without it. Is life consumed? It is. Does time die? It does.
Gambling, alcohol, heroin, excessive sex addiction… What’s the difference? It’s even worse. Why? The negativities it creates are sneakier. Negative feedbacks appear at a much later time and in a stealthy manner. Think about it, for instance, you experience acute effects from excessive dizziness, vomiting, to being unable to find a bus fare to go back home because of excessive loss of money on gambling. However, the internet slowly occupies your borders, and you wouldn’t even notice.
I have known students, whose fathers moved to other houses right next to their schools just to be closer to the internet. Speaking of common characteristics; to be more introvert, to have more turbulent feelings, to have a more traumatic life story, to have a less developed sense of responsibility, such as school, business, etc. These are the first ones that come to my mind. Males are a little more prone to it. In fact, this field is obviously open for a research.
The only solution is to accept its existence. Such that, only this step alone can solve the problem. The awareness in question is parallel to the distress and sadness being felt. Moreover, if accompanied by depression, regret, guilt and excessive state of anxiety, then the addition of drugs is quite beneficial.
Now, let’s test ourselves… Let’s see if we are addicts.
Do you ever forget how time passes when you are on the internet?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
Do you shamefully hide the time you spend on the internet?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
Can’t you stop yourself even if you don’t want to log in?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
Are you constantly following the messages received through the internet when you are away from the cyber world?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
Do you spend a lot of sleepless nights on the internet?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
How unhappy and angry does it make you when others get your attention as you are on the internet?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
Do you have physical problems, such as ache in the fingers, dryness in the eyes, which are caused by excessive use of the internet?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
Do your loved ones express their concerns about your internet use?
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
Do you ever log in, failing to stop yourself, even in improper settings? During classes, at funerals, at cinemas, etc…
(Never) 1 2 3 4 5 (Very often)
If your scores are equal or more than 25, I suggest you think about it… Think about it for once, think if life is that cheap and if that many people are helpless…
Please do it… Think about the results of what’s being done for you, what’s given to you… Think about the share of your contributions to time, to place, to yourself, to humans… Think about it when you are going deep in internet games.
