Memory and love

99 out of 100 people who consult me say that they were happy in their childhood. When I think about it, it has most likely to do with being loved and being the centre of attention… I am often asked how to erase painful memories; the answer under these circumstances is probably “by being loved”. Look at people who are much loved, at their unconcern of painful events, their ability to forget or disregard their pain… How close the relationship between memory and love is… I remember a patient of mine who, racked with physical pain, was almost begging saying “Love me! Please love me!” Is that not very touching?
